Nate Berkus

Speaker Nathan Jay Berkus is a nationally renowned interior designer, often appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show. During his stint on her television show, he finished one hundred and twenty-seven design makeovers, including a redesign of Oprah Winfrey’s office and residential living spaces of stars like Jerry O'Connell and Kirstie Alley. Nathan debuted as the host of his own television show, The Nate Berkus Show, in September of 2010. Since 1995, he has also run a Chicago interior design firm, Nate Berkus Associates, which he opened at the age of twenty-four.

The Jewish designer seems to have design ability running in his family. His mother, Nancy Golden, can also be seen on Home and Garden Television and the DIY television network.

Nate Berkus graduated from Lake Forest College in Chicago, with degrees in French and Sociology. He has distinguished himself as a skilled designer and more recently, a published author. He wrote the step-by-step guidebook Home Rules: Transform the Place You Live into a Place You'll Love in 2005. He also endorsed a line of merchandise available at Linens 'n Things stores and designed a collection of furniture for Niedermaier. He finds his inspiration from a variety of sources, including travel abroad to exotic places.

Nate Berkus has won many commendations throughout his career, including House Beautiful's Next Wave Design Talent, Craine Business Magazine's 40 Under 40 To Watch and Vox/Out Design and Style Award. He is openly gay and currently resides in Chicago.
