Detailed Biography of Kevin Harlan
When it comes to dishing out bon mots along with calling the plays, no one has a leg up on Kevin Harlan. With a list of signature phrases and favored wordplay to his credit, Kevin Harlan has a veritable arsenal at his disposal when it comes to colorfully describing plays.
Sports success runs in Kevin Harlan’s family. A very successful sports announcer in his own right, he is also the son of Bob Harlan, the former chief executive officer and chairman of the board for the Green Bay Packers. The first Kevin Harlan appearances on television and radio came when he was still quite young. At the age of just 22, Kevin Harlan began calling NBA games played by the Kansas City Kings, who are now the Sacramento Kings. Then he called basketball at the University of Kansas, where he had graduated from only a few years previously.
From there, Kevin Harlan moved to begin calling play by play for the NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs and remained in that post from 1985 to 1993. During that time, he also called football and basketball games at the University of Missouri and the NBA team the Minnesota Timberwolves. By the early 1990s, he appeared on national networks and still covers NBA playoff games.
Outside of television and radio, you can catch a Kevin Harlan appearance as the announcer in the video game series NBA 2K.
