Detailed Biography of John Daly

John Daly has had a colorful career in golf, both on and off the course, which has resulted in him gaining a measure of both notoriety and fame and his enduring status as a player that always merits watching. He remains popular to this day and has more than earned his nicknames Wild Thing, The Lion and Long John, the latter a direct reference to his long drives.

Born in Carmichael, California, but raised in Arkansas, the first John Daly appearance on a golf course took place at the tender age of five. He played on the golf team at the University of Arkansas and then joined the PGA Tour in 1987 at the age of 21. While playing on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour, John Daly appearances on the golf course racked up a total of 19 professional wins, five of which came on the PGA Tour and three of which came on the European Tour. The biggest, most memorable victories of his career included his 1991 win in The PGA Championship and his 1995 win in The Open Championship.

Because of all his success on the golf course and his unique story, John Daly appearances as a golf player have resulted in two awards from the PGA. In 1991, John Daly won the PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Award. In 2004, he also added to that hardware by winning the PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year Award.
