Detailed Biography of Joe Frazier
Joe Frazier is without a doubt one of the best boxers of all time, and he has rightfully earned his place among the pantheon of sports legends. Even with all his accomplishments, his name will likely always be associated with that of his greatest rival, Muhammad Ali, whom he defeated in 1971 in a match dubbed “The Fight of the Century.”
A heavyweight legend, Joe Frazier competed in 37 professional bouts, winning 32 of those. Of the 32 matches he won, 27 of those came by knockout. He only has one draw and four losses on his record. Two of those losses came from archrival Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Frazier also earned a gold medal for the United States in heavyweight boxing in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. In 1970, he earned the World Heavyweight Champion title. He retained the title until 1972, when he was defeated by Foreman.
Even though Joe Frazier no longer knocks out opponents in the ring, the boxing legend is not too far from the public eye. He has even guested in two episodes of the cult cartoon “The Simpsons” and appeared in cameo roles in a few films. Joe Frazier appearances are regular fixtures at his gym, which is based in Philadelphia. There, he trains a new generation of fighters. His autobiography was titled in honor of his boxing nickname, “Smokin’ Joe,” and details his antagonistic relationship with Ali.
