Chris Hughes

Speaker, entrepreneur and co-founder of the social networking site Facebook, Chris Hughes attended Harvard with fellow Facebook founders, Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz and Eduardo Saverin. Chris first worked as the Facebook spokesperson from his and Mark Zuckerburg’s dorm room and later moved to Palo Alto, California, to work on the product team. The North Carolina native on scholarship graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Literature in 2006.

In early 2007, Chris left Facebook to work in Chicago on Senator Obama’s new-media campaign for Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign on My.BarackObama.com, the campaign's online social networking website. The site is credited with much of Obama’s primary season success. Chris Hughes was the feature of a 2009 cover story in Fast Company magazine under the headline, The Kid Who Made Obama President; How Facebook Cofounder Chris Hughes Unleashed Barack's Base - and Changed Politics and Marketing Forever.

In 2009, Hughes was named Entrepreneur in Residence at General Catalyst Partners, a Cambridge, Massachusetts venture-capital firm. In 2010, he founded Jumo, a non-profit social network organization geared toward connecting donors and volunteers for nonprofits. The network promotes humanistic causes such as support for effective HIV prevention. Jumo is a Youruba word meaning “together in concert” and was inspired by Chris’ travels to poor and politically divided countries in Latin America, India and Africa.

Chris Hughes is openly gay and engaged to be married to his long-term partner, Freedom to Marry Political Director, Sean Eldridge.
