Amy Devers

Speaker Amy Devers is a carpenter and television host of the popular Home and Garden television show, DIY to the Rescue with Karl Champley on the DIY network. She also has appeared on Trading Spaces, The Learning Channel, Freeform Furniture, Designer People and Blog Cabin. Amy is a home improvement expert, part furniture designer, part sculptor and part finish carpenter.

Born and raised in Michigan just outside of Detroit, she found her way into the field of furniture design after first studying fashion design in New York. She went on to earn a BA from San Diego State University in furniture design, and later, a Master of Fine Arts in furniture design from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Amy’s commercial design projects include work for the Pasadena Museum of California Art bookstore and her original furniture designs have been exhibited in museums all over the world. She regularly provides expert how-to instruction on her television shows and never fails to provide a certain infectious enthusiasm. Specializing in imaginative, functional pieces of contemporary furniture, Amy likes to use a wide array of materials, ranging from wood, metal, laminate, plastic and glass to achieve sleek, modern lines. She draws on her experience working as a machine shop foreman at a design and manufacturing firm, where her responsibilities included prototyping and fabricating environmental designs.

In addition to her frequent television appearances, she is currently operating Amy Devers Art/Design, a design/build studio in Los Angeles, California. Her contract and freelance work includes home improvement, general handiwork projects, custom furniture design and interior design work for both private residences and commercial spaces. In her spare time, she is currently working on writing a book.
